Is Your Car Ready for Summer?
The Car Care Council recommends having your A/C system checked annually to ensure peak performance.
A/C service typically includes:
- Visual inspection of hoses, lines, seals and other components for leaks and drive belt for cracks or damage
- Pressure check to test operation, refrigerant charge and outlet temperatures
- Scheduled system flush and coolant change
But don't wait for an annual checkup to ensure your cooling system is in shape!
Coolant levels should be checked regularly at the reservoir. If the coolant is low, add a 50/50 mixture of distilled water and your vehicle's approved coolant to "top off". If you find a repeated need to add coolant your system should be checked for leaks.
A visual inspection of belts, hoses and the radiator can help identify problems before they become critical. Radiator leaks, bulging or cracked hoses and frayed or cracked belts all indicate a need for maintenance.
Get your vehicle serviced immediately if you experience engine overheating, coolant leaks, steam or hissing sounds from under the hood, or smell antifreeze.
